Goodwill Industries International Week, May 7-11 2012 by Triad Goodwill

Triad Goodwill helped more than 1,725 people find jobs last year. This Goodwill Industries Week, we want to say thank you for your support. Your generosity helps us provide job training and community services to help people become independent.

Now, meet Marla Sims. After losing her job, she discovered our North Elm Career Center and the rest is history…

“If you are looking for career advancement, employment or just need to update your skills, I would recommend everyone visit the North Elm Career Center in Greensboro or the closest Triad Goodwill Career Center in your area.

When my full time job was phased out, I was referred to Goodwill, so I could learn about the Career Center’s free employment and job search programs and services.  The center provides computers, faxing/phone calls to potential employers, job training, educational development and much much more.  Goodwill on-site job counselors are available to assist with resume development, cover letters, applications, and one-on-one career counseling. The employees are very helpful and knowledgeable.

North Elm Career Center in Greensboro has been very instrumental in me obtaining Full-Time Employment. Thanks Goodwill for all you do!!!

Plus meet Preston Martin, a Jobs on the Outside participant who after being incarcerated, found success with Triad Goodwill http://www.youtube.com/user/TriadGoodwill.

Meet the Rock the Runway Style Team – Mimi and Jaime by Triad Goodwill

Mimi Michelle and Jaime Jones will demonstrate why they are “the face” of this show, when they garnish the RTR models with day and evening makeup looks…

Talented makeup artist Melissa M. Warren (Mimi Michelle) is the owner of I Kandi By Mimi Michelle, a cosmetology service and retail company located in Greensboro.  Her work has been featured in many fashion shows, photo shoots and publications including Ebony magazine.  She believes strongly in giving back to those in need, which is why she is donating her time and artistry to handle makeup for more than 20 diverse models for the Rock The Runway event.

Jaime Jones is a professional makeup artist, esthetician, businesswoman, and writer. The North Carolina native holds a degree in Film and Video Production Technology and developed her love for everything makeup while attending college. After graduating she took her love for the art to the next level and attended the Aveda Institute Chapel Hill. Jamie’s professional experience includes work on fashion shows, television, video, film, and print. She also uses her talents and passion to prepare clients to look their best for life’s specials moments.

Jamie has had careers as a chef, catering coordinator and a sales rep. Now a fitness enthusiast and renowned esthetician here in Greensboro, Jamie’s varied background will be put to great use during her role as stage manager for the RTR event, acting as liaison between the style, production and model teams to get more than 50 fashionable looks from Triad Goodwill stores on the runway during the event.

Meet the Rock the Runway Style Team – Hanna Garner by Triad Goodwill

Only three weeks left until we Rock the Runway with some amazing fashions for bargain prices!  First, get to know another Rock the Runway Style Team member, Hanna Garner of Rebecca & Co. , who’ll transform our models into New York fashion chic for the evening!

Since 2003, Hanna has been the manager of Rebecca & Co, a high-end contemporary ladies boutique with locations in Greensboro and Winston-Salem.  Hanna is an envied and familiar face to stylish women in the area, with a reputation for being sophisticated, professional and the best fashion stylist in the Triad.

For this year’s event, Hanna has the critical role of selecting and styling all the runway looks, as a member of the Artist Collaboration Group,” a NC-based team  of women, organized to provide end-to-end art direction & styling for fashion, interior design and photography projects for both high-end clients and charitable organizations, such as Triad Goodwill. Hanna’s efforts will be the result of tireless hours spent visiting Goodwill retail stores to pull clothing and items that represent the best that Goodwill has to offer. What she presents at the show will blow everyone away! In the meantime, come see Hanna at Rebecca & Co in Greensboro, and see her styling Rock The Runway on Feb 24.

Meet the Rock the Runway Style Team – Catherine Brockway by Triad Goodwill

The Rock the Runway fashion show is well underway, and among our many volunteers and Goodwill staff members working hard to pull it all together, we want you to get to know the style team.  They’ll pull together the set and clothing design,  and hair, makeup and jewelry looks for the big day.  They love what they do and they love Goodwill so we’re shouting them out!

Meet Catherine, this Master hairstylist has made leaps and bounds in a short career…

After beginning her career assisting International CHI Platform artist Bradley Tuggle

just three years ago, Catherine has already gone on to collaborate with several established photographers and designers, including Dan Routh, Abbie Cooke of Chariot Creative, and Dana LeBlanc Designs. Her portfolio includes work ranging from costume design for stage productions, to runway shows to photo shoots. She is a core member of the “Artist Collaboration Group,” a Greensboro-based team of women, organized to provide end to end art direction and styling for fashion, interior design and photography projects for both high-end clients and charitable organizations, like Goodwill.

Catherine’s latest endeavor is taking on the role of Creative Director for the new Boho Salon located in Downtown Greensboro. Objectives for the staff at the innovative eco-friendly salon are to support the community, the planet and art in as many ways possible. From their 100% vegan product line, displaying and selling local artists’ work, serving Natty Greene’s beer and Green Bean’s coffee, to decorating the salon using furniture found at local antique shops, Boho Salon is committed to its purpose! Not to mention their team’s ability to deliver beautiful and consistent work for their clients.

From behind the chair, to her work outside the salon, Catherine Brockway is passionate about her work, her clients and the community. Come see her work and meet her in person at Rock The Runway on February 24!
